I have never really been one to diet or eat according to how much my scale reads. Heck, I don’t even have a scale. However, I have some quick tips on how to get the bod to squeeze into that wedding dress.

Step 1 – Get engaged.

I guess you kind of need to find that special someone that wants to spend the rest of his (or her) life with you and is in it for the long haul.

Step 2 – Register to climb a mountain post-wedding.

I have this friend, let’s call him Tobias. When the rain starts in Seattle every fall, I start to get calendar invites for the following hiking and climbing year. Fortunately for my wedding plans, he had scheduled a weekend to climb the 14K+ Mount Rainier. I didn’t let my wedding stand in the way, well maybe just a little.

Step 3 – Train for said mountain.

Gym climbing and yoga sessions Monday nights with the girls, check.

Lunchtime bootcamp Tuesdays and Thursdays, check. If your work doesn’t offer workout activities during lunch. Find other coworkers who want to do squats, lunges, sit ups, push ups, and the works with you. Hopefully, you work somewhere with showers close-by.

Have active weekends. I know sitting at a desk all week makes you want to sit on the couch all weekend and watch the tube, NOT. Start with hiking or backpacking. Continue to add more miles and see how many miles you can get on a day hike or on a backpacking trip. Go on a bachelorette backpacking trip to help train for the wedding even more.

Step 4 – Climb similar mountains.

Find mountains that will throw similar conditions at you as your planned objective. Did you find them? Ok, block off those weekends and climb them. Pack the gear you would need for the main objective to prepare for carrying all the weight. If you can climb them with the same friends you are climbing the said mountain, even better.

Step 5 – Get married.

Step 6 – Honeymoon.

Travel to a country that is basically at sea-level.

Ok, this might not have been one of my best ideas, but it was still an amazing trip. I thought I would be able to still workout while traveling. It might have been possible if we weren’t in a boat searching for wildlife.

Step 7 – Climb said mountain.

Return from honeymoon and attempt the mountain. If you are lucky, stand on the summit and have a party.
