With most of my time in Colorado dedicated to skiing the Colorado Rockies, I did not plan for much time in the city. After a yummy brunch at Snooze, Andy and I decided to rent bikes to see as much of Denver as possible before catching the flight home.

What is B-Cycle?

B-Cycle is a bike sharing system found throughout the city of Denver with multiple stations to pick up and drop off. With an app to download on your phone, it couldn’t be any more easy to navigate between pick up and drop off locations.

Picking up our first B-Cycle.

With multiple options to choose from, we decided a 24 hour day pass would suffice. As long as we did not exceed 30 minutes between stops, we were not charged more than the 24 hour rate of $8. However, our last ride took a little longer because I am a cautious biker and not comfortable on bikes around moving traffic, so we were charged an additional $1.

From Snooze, we biked to Civic Center Park and saw the Colorado State Capitol. Deciding to walk between two B-Cyle stops on both ends of the park, I was able to take pictures off the bike.

I felt very safe riding along the wide streets of Denver. I am sure other cities with narrow streets are much harder for bikers than the ones in Denver. Even though the high altitude may have left me winded, Denver is relatively flat and easy to bike around.

Picking up another bike.

After biking through residential areas, we wound up biking around Ferril Lake, which is in the middle of City Park. Biking around the lake was nice and provided views of our next stop: Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

After spending little time at the museum, we biked back to our friend’s house to pack our bags for the airport. The South Platte River Trail was in full swing and used by walkers, runner, rollerbladers, and bikers. It was nice to see so many people enjoying the city and the trail.

The large baskets on the front make the bike handle bars heavy. I did have my jacket, purse, and DSLR camera, so the basket came in handy for our impromptu bike ride. The bike was comfortable and adjustable for different heights, which was nice. I recommend inspecting the bikes before choosing one to make sure the tires were full of air and the bike looked reasonable.

Shouldn’t all cities should have this option?!
