Every month from now on I will be sharing a flashback image from my travels.

The monthly flashback image was a result of Delta airlines overbooking my return flight from Rome after my study abroad experience in France. Delta presented Andy and me with $1,000 towards future Delta travel within a year inside the United States. As a broke college student, this meant traveling at Delta’s expense!

Time of Life:

I was taking a year off of college to intern at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH.

What this photo means to me:

Exploration. My first trip out West and my first backpacking trip that included carrying all my gear. We hiked 50 miles in 5 days.

Behind the scenes story:

My bag traveled more than I did. We arrived in Las Vegas without our luggage to find it traveled to New York instead. On the way out, it traveled to Cincinnati and Albuquerque. Fortunately, the luggage arrived 3 hours before leaving our hotel to hike the Havasupai Reservation.

I also left my rain jacket on the plane. I realized as I was getting off and waited for everyone on the plane to depart before going back on the plane to find it. Someone had stolen my rain jacket. Good thing we were hiking in the desert!
